WE STILL FIX THINGS
This simple statement separates us from the majority of companies in our industry today where technical training has taken a back seat to sales training. Over the past decade the emphasis has changed from service and repair to “it can’t be fixed; you need a new one…” Unfortunately for the consumer (and our industries reputation) too many companies are now employing “sales techs” instead of skilled service technicians. You call to get your air conditioner repaired and before you know what happened you’ve got a new unit. Sound familiar? The fact is there’s more money to be made selling a new air conditioner or furnace than repairing the old one. Worse still, a sales tech does not have the technical knowledge to correctly trouble shoot and diagnose your problem and will resort to what they do know, sell, sell, and sell. It’s happening more and more these days and is a serious problem in our industry. I know we’re running more second opinions on supposedly failed or condemned equipment only to find they’ve just been incorrectly diagnosed.
A contributing factor to this problem is that the state of Texas does not require air conditioning technicians to be licensed. The state only requires the companies performing air conditioning work to have an air conditioning contractor’s license issued by the Texas department of licensing and regulation; generally it will be held by the business owner. This means an air conditioning company can have a hundred technicians working under the one license (and direct supervision) of an owner/license holder who can be thousands of miles away on vacation!
HPH Services technicians are licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Our technicians will proudly show you their license, ask a tech from company xyz to show you his license and what you might see is a technician registration card which is required by the state for tracking and is obtained with NO test given or minimum experience requirement. By contrast in order to be eligible to take the state’s contractors licensing exam you must have at least four years of documented industry experience.
If you want a different experience from your last air conditioning company, call us today.
